Amber Inclusions from Myanmar – Windows into an Ancient World
For nearly 100 million years, Kachin amber has preserved extraordinary traces of a vanished ecosystem.

Inclusion(s):
Ixodidae – Adult Hard Tick (adulte Schildzecke)
-

KA94/CAB
-
Inclusion Size:
Body length 0.8 mm
-

15 x 11 x 5 mm

Around 100 million years (Cretaceous period)

Myanmar
Remarks:
Hard ticks were already present around 100 million years ago. Fossils from Kachin amber provide evidence that some Cretaceous ticks fed on feathered dinosaurs. It is fascinating to consider which Cretaceous vertebrate may have served as a host for a tick like this before it became trapped in resin.
