Amber Inclusions from Myanmar – Windows into an Ancient World
For nearly 100 million years, Kachin amber has preserved extraordinary traces of a vanished ecosystem.

Inclusion(s):
†Lagonomegopidae – Extinct Spider (ausgestorbene Spinne)
-
Collection Number:
KA13/CAB
-
Inclusion Size:
Body length 4.5 mm; with legs 10.5 mm.
-
Amber Size:
20 x 16 x 6 mm
-
Age:
Around 100 million years (Cretaceous period)
-
Location:
Myanmar
Remarks:
†Lagonomegopidae is an extinct spider family known only from the Cretaceous. Their characteristic pair of exceptionally large lateral eyes suggests that vision played an important role in active hunting. Fossils from Kachin amber also provide evidence of maternal care, with females apparently guarding their egg sacs and spiderlings possibly remaining with their mother after hatching.
