Inclusion(s):

Psychopsidae larva –  Silky lacewing (Seidenflüglerlarve)

  • Collection Number:
KA1/CAB
  • Inclusion Size:
5.1 mm
  • Amber Size:
16 x 13 x 4 mm
  • Age:
Around 100 million years (Cretaceous period)
  • Location:
Myanmar

Remarks:

Psychopsidae larvae were predators with long, curved mouthparts used to capture prey. The exceptionally large mouthparts are particularly striking in this specimen. Fossils from Kachin amber show that silky lacewing larvae were much more diverse in form during the Cretaceous than they are today.
