Amber Inclusions from Myanmar – Windows into an Ancient World
For nearly 100 million years, Kachin amber has preserved extraordinary traces of a vanished ecosystem.

Inclusion(s):
Blattodea – Molting Cockroach (Schabe bei der Häutung)
-
Collection Number:
KA156/CAB
-
Inclusion Size:
Including molt: 8 mm
-
Amber Size:
18 x 14 x 3 mm
-
Age:
Around 100 million years (Cretaceous period)
-
Location:
Myanmar
Remarks:
An extremely rare example of molting behavior preserved in Cretaceous Kachin amber. The cockroach is emerging from its old exoskeleton, which remains attached to its body. Molting is essential for insect growth, as their rigid exoskeleton cannot expand. The preservation of this brief and vulnerable moment is particularly remarkable.
